Jimmy Liks
After last weeks rather confusing experience at Longrain, It was refreshing to find the very same formula with exquisite execution in the heart of Sydney’s Potts Point.
Like Longrain, Jimmy Liks takes no bookings, so the inevitable wait is spent inside the softly lit adjoining bar, swathed in timber panelling; a visual orgy of earthy tones.
Expect a fusion between the simplicities in South-East-Asian street food with the complexities of Modern Thai-Western dining - the food is fantastic. The crispy skin duck with orange and tamarind is an obvious choice, beautifully complimented by the bitterness of the pea eggplant curry with pickled pineapple and chilli.
Cocktails are exotic - the Ho-Chih-Minh Tea offers a similar concept to those offered at Longrain, but perhaps lack the same sophistication in favour of distinction.
Jimmy Liks overall is focused; and while it’s often considered to be Longrain’s younger, cheaper and ultimately inferior brother, there’s no question of which one’s got my vote.
